It’s the weekend and time to relax a little. Try some healthy homemade burgers that are quick and easy to make, tasty and with no unwanted ingredients. Here are a few ideas of different flavours, but you can experiment with your favourite herbs, spices and veg.
Pork Burgers (serves 4)
1 pack Pork mince
4 spring onions finely sliced
4 leaves fresh sage or 1 tspn dried
1 apple cored and grated
1 egg
Salt & pepper to taste
Mix all the ingredients in a bowl
Shape into patties approx. the size of the palm of your hand – should make 8 medium patties
Fry gently on each side until cooked through
Lamb Burgers (serves 4)
1 pack Lamb mince
1 small onion finely diced and fried
A few fresh mint leaves or 1 tspn dried
1 sprig of fresh Rosemary or 1/2 tspn dried
1 egg
Salt & pepper to taste
Mix all the ingredients in a bowl
Shape into patties approx. the size of the palm of your hand – should make 8 medium patties
Fry gently on each side until cooked through
Chicken Burgers (serves 4)
1 pack chicken mince
1 tspn Cajun seasoning
1 egg
Mix all the ingredients in a bowl
Shape into patties approx. the size of the palm of your hand – should make 8 medium patties
Fry gently on each side until cooked through
Serve with slices of Avocado
Chickpea Burgers (makes 6-8)
1 can chickpeas, drained, well-rinsed,and mashed
½ red onion, finely diced
1 small courgette, grated
3 tbsp finely chopped coriander
1 tbsp natural tahini
1 tsp cumin
1 clove garlic, crushed
Salt &
Drain and rinse the chickpeas, place them in a bowl and mash them with a fork
Add all the other ingredients to the bowl
Use your hands to mix very well
Fry with some oil for 3-5 minutes a side
All the above can be served with salad and a few sweet potatoes chips or your favourite bread roll and choice of condiment
You can also make smaller burgers, which freeze well and can be used for snacks or lunch boxes
